From Discarded to Remembered – STRATUM Opens at The Charoen AArt
In this episode of Global Economic Press, Alex Brady delves into the intersection of contemporary art, culture, and technology, focusing on the latest exhibition at The Charoen AArt in Bangkok. The exhibition, titled STRATUM, showcases the innovative works of Ukrainian artist Illya Skubak. Skubak's art transforms ordinary objects into extraordinary pieces, exploring the emotional, physical, and cultural layers of contemporary life. By using materials like tires, helmets, and metal scraps found in Bangkok, Skubak creates sculptural works that invite viewers to form their own interpretations, emphasizing transformation, presence, and memory within the everyday.
STRATUM also includes pieces from Skubak's series, STONE – Artifacts of the Future Past, featuring hand-engraved volcanic stones paired with non-fungible tokens. These works explore the themes of permanence and impermanence, linking memory, material, and technology. Bryce Watanasoponwong, founder of The Charoen AArt, highlights how the exhibition encourages viewers to find beauty in overlooked objects. The exhibition runs from June 15 to August 17, 2025, at The Charoen AArt on Charoen Krung Road in Bangkok. For more information, visit The Charoen AArt's website.
